Miniatures Bases

The first miniatures bases were created in the early days of Warhammer 40,000, way back in the late 1980s. At that time, most models were based on standard 25mm round bases. As the range of models expanded, so too did the variety of base sizes. 32mm bases became popular for larger models, while smaller models were often based on 20mm or even 15mm bases.

The history of the Bases

In more recent years, Games Workshop has standardized the base sizes for all Warhammer 40,000 models. The most common size is now 32mm, with larger models being based on 40mm or 50mm rounds, and smaller models often being based on 25mm or 20mm rounds. There are also a few special base sizes, such as the 60mm oval used for flying models, and the 70x70mm square used for vehicles.
